What is Key Legal?

Key Legal connects you to an Ontario licensed lawyer for a consultation, at a platform access fee of $29.99. This fee is intended to help us offset the costs of operating this platform, including marketing and administrative costs.  The lawyer will provide a 15 minute consultation. No referral fees or commissions are payable to lawyers or by lawyers. Key Legal offers a platform which connects people with lawyers for a consultation. Key Legal itself is not a law firm. Key Legal does not provide legal services. Key Legal has no involvement with the solicitor-client relationship. 

That seems brief – is 15 minutes sufficient?

A quick meeting with a lawyer could provide you with legal information or help you plan a course of action.  Then, you could decide on next steps with your lawyer directly, if needed.

How will my appointment take place?

All appointments will be either through Zoom or a telephone call.

Don’t some law firms offer free consultations?

Some do, but often times, the free consultations advertised by law firms are not with lawyers, but instead with the firm’s admin staff, who provide a marketing pitch and information on the firm’s retainer arrangements, fees and policies. An appointment booked through Key Legal is with a licensed Ontario lawyer. 

Which lawyer will I get?

You will be connected to a lawyer in Ontario licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. These lawyers work in their own private practices and are not employees of Key Legal.

Are there any restrictions on the type of legal matter I discuss?

Our current list of legal subject areas that we handle can be found here.  We are looking to increase our service offerings so if your area of law is not covered, please check back at a later time.    

We will do our best to match you to a lawyer closest to the field of law of your legal concern.  If your request cannot be accommodated, you will be fully refunded.  Each lawyer retains full discretion on providing legal advice.
